Mortar

Mortar between the slats in the basement wall, adjacent to the stairs, in the house on Kenyon Street in Knoxville. I thought this was curious from two viewpoints: (1) the patterns of the dried mortar are cool, and (2) mortar is usually used between bricks or stone — I don't think I've ever seen mortar used between wooden slats.
