Izzit-a-dot?

That was the most amusing question I ever heard about my bindi, asked by someone at the hotel one night, i.e., "Is it a dot?"

um... yes, it's a dot. LOL

Cheese!

Don was bored one morning while waiting in a doctor's office, so he took this self-portrait, 09-Apr-2008. Based on what appears in the background, I would think this was at his oncologist's office, where he received Aranesp/Procrit shots regularly to control the anemia caused by prior chemotherapy.

Flowers

Pretty flowers that were blooming at the hotel where I worked. These were planed by Kunden, the lady who hired me, and to whom I reported until her brother took over managing the hotel.

Dragonfly

This dragonfly tile is somewhere in the Tri-Cities area, but I forget exactly where I was when I snapped the photo. I do remember that I was with Don, we were walking somewhere, and I thought it was pretty. Don thought it was cute that I always wanted to make snapshots, here and there. LOL

Grilled Chicken Salad

Don and I absolutely loved salads and ate them frequently. We loved working together in the kitchen together and made a good team. This particular Grilled Chicken Salad, however, I made one night while Don was napping, and we shared it when he woke up. Mealtime with him was always something special.

Truck

Several truck drivers were regular guests at the hotel where I worked. This truck belongs to a driver who makes weekly runs between Talladaga (Alabama) and Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport.

Sri Ma

In downtown Bristol, there is a little shop that Don and I visited a couple of times. Don liked the store's selection of vinyl records. I liked the small selection of unique consignment clothing. Both of us enjoyed the selection of used books they carry. It was win-win-win! LOL

One of the books I bought there was a delightful book titled Daughters of the Goddess: The Women Saints of India by Linda Johnsen. I enjoyed this book immensely and could hardly put it down once I started reading! I liked the book partly because it centered on women, and partly because it was about Hindu spirituality. Highly recommended!

Today's photo is Sri Ma van Kamakhya, snapped from the cover of the book with my old LG225 flip phone, several years ago.

And if anyone wants to visit the shop in Bristol, I have forgotten its name, BUT it is located across the street from the historic Paramount Theater, and down a couple of doors (near where Atlantis was once located).

Pal's

Nobody in the Tri-Cities makes a better hamburger than Pal's. Initial plans for the company began in 1952, and the first restaurant opened on Revere Street in Kingsport in 1956. This is the original location, shown in the photo. Read more about the company here.

Dawna Darton

The hotel where I worked had several prints of watercolor paintings by artist Dawna Darton. I like her style, and this was one of my favorites.

Mr. Bluetooth

Of all the photos of Don, this was always one of my very favorites! He snapped this photo, himself, as he was walking across the parking lot one evening after a shift at the AT&T call center in Johnson City. He looks so 'tuff' here! *rawr!* LOL

Mountains of Home

These are the mountains between Tennessee and North Carolina. Every tine I cross these mountains and descend into Tennessee, I feel like I am "home" again.

Funky

One of the salt lamps Dawn gave me appeared in yesterday's photo, but another one appears in the photos, below. This was actually my first choice, because of the funky, mysterious way it looks when lit.

Here it is with the room lights on:

Miller Crest fire

Sometime after Toni and I had moved away from Miller Crest, a fire destroyed 20 apartments in one of the buildings. Even though the fire was not in the same building where Toni and I lived, I am still glad that it did not happen while we were living there. The full story of the August 2010 blaze is archived on TriCities.com.

Miller Crest

This is the apartment complex where Toni and I moved when we left Florida. It was called "Miller Crest Apartments" because it was located on the side of a hill called "Miller Crest" in the "Millercrest" area of Johnson City. Seriously! LOL!

Chimneytop, from Kingsport

This is how Chimneytop Mountain looks from Kingsport, just to the right of the center in the photo, below. Stretching off the right-hand side is the northern terminus of Bays Mountain, where the park and towers are located. This shot was made at the east end of Watauga Avenue, where it joins Center Street near Dobyns-Bennett High School.

Chimneytop Mountain

Traveling west on I-81, Chimneytop Mountain is a very prominent feature. I love this stretch of road that heads straight towards the mountain. Using yesterday's blog entry as a reference, Chimneytop Mountain is actually one of the many ridgelines that comprise the geographical feature called "Bays Mountain," with this being the highest of all of them.

Ridges and valleys

All the way from Pennsylvania down to Tenneessee, there are prominent, long ridges along the western-side of the Appalachian Mountains, with valleys in-between. The most conspicuous in northwestern Tennessee is Bays Mountain, which is actually composed of several long ridgelines that are close together, and stretches all the way from Kingsport to Knoxville. The different ridgelines that comprise the mountain can easily be seen on the map, below:

From the Baileyton area, one can look right up the end of several ridges, making them look a bit like separate mountains. It's way cool!

Gaslight switch

Antique, "gaslight" switch in the Green Room on Kenyon Street. I love old fixtures like this! If the house is ever remodeled, I hope they keep some of the old things like this.
